Product Details

Luxurious royal blue cashmere pashmina from the Adiyogi range which is based on the features and aesthetics of Lord Shiva. Hand made, hand dyed, and hand embroidered in the narrow lanes of Kashmir which was once the capital of Shaivism. Made with 100% Ladakh Pashmina sourced in June 2020 from Koyul village in Leh, Ladakh where temperatures can reach minus 15 degrees during the Winter, the goats grow a fine long-haired undercoat that forms a natural heat-insulating shield against the cold. This fibre is light and warm with amazing insulating properties, the fibres are extremely fine varying between 9 - 16 microns.

Traditionally the dehairing of the cashmere, the process of removing the thicker guard hair from the cashmere fibre, was carded by hand, the Indian Government has 'given' a state-of-the-art plant housing a six-stage carding machine to a cooperative society that was established to protect the Ladakhi pashmina growers.

The baby soft cashmere was spun in Kashmir where spinning is a traditional culture, The soft fibre is converted into yarn ranging between 110-140 'English count' in thickness, this fineness of yarn would be difficult to achieve on modern machinery without a carrier fibre. Woven in Srinagar on a handloom by Mr Javed Bhat taking approximately one month to transform the soft thread into beautiful fabric. The thread was dyed in Hawal Srinagar.

The embroidery was done by a craftsman in the Ghanderbal district of Kashmir, where the art of hand embroidery is a traditional craft. The Adiyogi designs on this pashmina will have taken about 120 days to complete in a classic Sozni style.

The pashmina was finished in September 2021 and was one of the first shawls to be made in the Adiyogi series.

The whole journey from the sourcing of the 'golden fibres' to the finished embroidered pashmina was 15 months.

Accompanying your shawl is 'The Kashmir Shawl', a book that beautifully illustrates the 'landscape and lives' that contribute to the creation of these amazing shawls, enriching your appreciation for this artisanal work.
